Frequently Asked Questions

I have a YouTube Channel and I’m trying really hard to be more active on Instagram. If you’re a writer, I also use Bluesky. Let’s connect! Links are at the top right of this site!

LAlthough that’s not the publishing track I’m currently pursuing, I love that there are so many ways for authors to share their work with the world. There is power in story and however people choose to share theirs is commendable. Before getting agented, I was preparing to self-publish my forthcoming picture book debut, but the universe had other plans.  You can learn more about that experience here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gNHmSjaTa4&t=42s

Public speaking is one of my favorite things (I know, I’m weird). I enjoy sharing experiences and things I’ve learned to help other people. And I just love people, so it’s fun for me to meet them. I’ve presented to groups of 1-1,000. Contact me on my form or Instagram and we can discuss!

I wish I had that talent. Luckily, I get to team up with incredible illustrators who do. In traditional publishing, the illustrator is chosen by the publisher and gets full rein of that side of the story.

Mostly picture book, middle grade, and some personal essays/memoir.

My life experiences largely shape my writing–past and present. I taught school for 12 years and get many ideas from my classroom days. Anytime I travel, I leave with another exciting idea. The antics of my three young kids spark constant lightbulbs. I am a woman of faith and treasure the ideas God gives me when I sit down to write on an empty page.

As much as I’d love to help every author, my bandwidth is small. I’m lucky to squeeze in writing time of my own between momming, staying healthy and regular life. One fabulous organization for finding kidlit critique partners is SCBWI and local conferences can provide helpful networking opportunities.

In middle school, I played the role of Seizure Girl for Stephen King’s film, Firestarter 2. The shoot lasted all night and I relished my stardom! The crew hired my dad to be an extra in the pandemonium scene since he was sticking around anyway. I have fond memories of him running down the street, feigning fear, hands waving wildly. I never got another part in a movie, but I can’t complain.
